HX designators are special instructions regarding the sending and
delivery of messages through the NTS (National Traffic System). These
designators appear in the header of the message.
As an example:

Fred Silveira k6rau

CODE COURSE SCHEDULE X 73 BT
RANDY/NR6N @ WA6NWE-1 AR
NR6N has included HXC and HXG designations in the message header,
HXC for "Report date and time of delivery (TOD) to originating station",
and HXG for "Delivery by mail or landline toll call not required.
If toll or other expense involved, cancel message and service originating
station".
A complete list of HX message designators follows:
HXA -- (followed by number.) Collect landline delivery authorized by
addressee within....miles. (If no number, authorization is unlimited.)
For example, HXA50 would authorize toll landline call within 50 miles
of message destination.
HXB -- (followed by number.) Cancel message if not delivered within....hours
of filing time; service originating station.) Example: HXB48 would
prescribe a cancellation of message after 48 hours of filing time.
HXC -- Report date and time of delivery (TOD) to orginating station.
HXD -- Report to originating station the identity of station from which
received, plus date and time. Report identity of station which relayed,
plus date and time, or if delivered report date, time and method of
delivery.
HXE -- Delivering station get reply from addressee, originate message
back.
HXF -- (followed by number.) hold delivery until....(date).
HXG -- delivery by mail or landline toll call not required. if toll
or other expense involved, cancel message and service originating
station.
if more than one HX prosign is used, they can be combined if no
numbers are to be inserted. in the nr6n example, it may be sent as
"NR 43R HXCG NR6N 10 Citrus Heights CA Dec 16" rather than separating
them as HXC HXG.
When a number is involved with the prosign, the HX designators should
be separated as in "NR 35R HXB72 HXG K6RAU 15 Merced CA Dec 22".
(HX prosign information was obtained from ARRL Publication CD 218
1-77.)
Amateurs are encouraged as part of their operating activities to take
an active roll in traffic handling.
